WSC, World Seed Congress, 3 to 5 June in Nice

Its microorganism-based products are effective in the treatment of seeds

Symborg will present new exclusive biotechnology solutions during the 2019 World Seed Congress to be held in the French city of Nice from 3 to 5 June. The company is working on new biological solutions, developed from microorganisms, that will add to their current solutions for application by seed treatment.

The World Seed Congress attracts more than 1500 representatives from the most important companies in the international seed industry and brings agricultural researchers and producers together from around the world. As a member of the International Seed Federation, the organizing entity of the WSC, Symborg will address the attendees to inform them of their novel bioagricultural developments.

This year’s Congress will host different presentations on innovation for the improvement of seeds, applied technology in seed treatments, trade and arbitration rules, meetings between producers of forage and turf, ornamental crops, etc. Symborg will be one of the « bronze » sponsors of this edition of the event.

Symborg Biotechnology: Recognized Experience

Symborg’s products, based on natural microorganisms, have shown to be highly effective in the treatment of seeds for crops such as cereals and legumes. They treat the seeds of grain cereals such as corn, soybean or sunflower (and legumes in general) with natural microorganisms that remain in an inactive state for prolonged periods in their coating. Once planted, after the germination process, these microorganisms are incorporated into the plants and become future beneficial agents for their development.

This is the case of its well-known biological inoculant, Resid HC, based on the Glomus Iranicum var. tenuihypharum, an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus which, in symbiosis with the roots of the crops, improves absorption capacity and nutrient transport to the plant.

This exclusive fungus, discovered and patented by the company, colonizes the roots of the crops and forms symbiosis with them. It produces abundant extramatrical mycelium and reproduces via spores generated on the exterior of the root, allowing the roots to explore a large volume of soil and facilitating a better transport of nutrients to the plant.  In addition, it is a species that tolerates high concentrations of nutritional salts in the soil, which guarantees good tolerance to current fertilization protocols for intensive agriculture.

Resid HC has proven to help plants absorb nutrients and soil water more efficiently. With a more abundant and balanced nutrition, the plant achieves a more controlled hormonal balance and responds better to all types of abiotic stress. The best-fed crops increase their physiological and photosynthetic activity and also improve their productive capacity.

It is a natural biological principle and does not produce unwanted residues in plants or alter their genetic characteristics. This method is 100% compatible with the environment.

Production increase percentages

All varieties of corn plants grown from seeds treated with Resid HC generate ears of greater size and weight and have an increased number and size of the grains. The trials yield average production increases of 7% in corn. The same goes for other cereals: in wheat, the results show production increases from 9.7% to 16% depending on the variety; in barley, the number of tons harvested per hectare increases from 8.5% to 15% depending on the variety and in soybean the average increase is 8.5%.

Innovation: New Solutions

Symborg develops its products from microorganisms with biofertilizer, biostimulant, bio-pesticides, etc. effects selected for their unique characteristics and ability to interact with plants and/or other microorganisms present in the soil. Symborg’s microbial solutions are highly effective, even under current standards of intensive agriculture for their compatibility with common fertilization practices, and because they are easy to transport and apply and meet the demands for high profitability,

Soil microbiology has a high potential and requires a great research effort, which is why Symborg continues to work on the development of new microorganism-based solutions for the seed market. Its highly specialized R+D team performs selective microbial extractions from forests, deserts, icy areas, seabeds, etc. Symborg currently has more than 10,000 selected strains and works extensively analyzing their interaction with plants in different soils, climatologies, water conditions, etc.
