Symborg will be at the 9th International Conference on Mycorrhizal ICOM9

Félix Fernández, Director of the Research and Development Department of SYMBORG, and Ana Vila, Researcher, will participate as experts in ICOM9, the 9th International Conference on Mycorrhizas organized by the International Mycorrhizal Society. This international conference will be held from July 30 to August 4 at the Clarion Congress Hotel in Prague, Czech Republic.

As its organizers explain, this international conference aims to be “a truly global platform for a wide and open exchange of knowledge on mycorrhizal symbiosis, from its anatomy and development through the underlying molecular mechanisms, mycorrhizal ecology and functioning, and its implications for the ecosystems as well as the human society”. The general theme of this Congress is: “Mycorrhizal functioning: from the desert to the megacities”, and during the conference the latest advances in mycorrhizal research will be presented and discussed.

Félix Fernández, Director of the R&D department of Symborg has a degree in Microbiology and a PhD in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Havana, Cuba. He has over 30 years of experience in the field of mycorrhizae, especially in the use and management of biofertilizers based on mycorrhizae and other microorganisms. He has developed several studies on inoculants production and studies on the efficacy of AMF (arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi) in intensive and extensive agro-ecosystems in South America and Europe. Both Dr. Fernandez Martín and Ana Vila, and the rest of Symborg experts usually participate in scientific conferences and in all kinds of meetings on agricultural innovation where they are required.

After many years of research and in order to find a unique and exclusive strain with benefits for agriculture, Félix Fernández discovered the famous fungus Glomus iranicum var. Tenuihypharum. which has become the basis of Symborg’s biotechnology. This mycorrhizal fungus is a powerful biological inoculant that has proven its effectiveness in most crops. Symborg will present its latest work with the new results of this fungus during the 9th International Conference on Mycorrhiza ICOM9.

Lastest studies on nematodes
During the 9th International Conference on Mycorrhizae, Symborg speakers will present one of their latest studies on the use of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in crops with nematodes (specifically Meloidogyne incognita).
The study compared the effectiveness of two strains of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi: Glomus iranicum var. tenuihypharum and Rhizophagus intraradices. The results of the study show that mycorrhizal tomato lines with Symborg Glomus obtain better results including in presence of nematodes. Once again, it is confirmed that Symborg´s AM fungus improves crop productivity, physiological activity of crops and, and as demonstrated in this case, even more in difficult conditions like in presence of pathogens.
